The birth of a child is a significant life event that involves extensive physical and emotional changes. For women with a migrant background, this transition can be particularly challenging, as they face cultural, linguistic, and social barriers in addition to the usual adjustments.
These additional stresses can increase the risk of developing postpartum mental illness. Despite the severity and frequency of these illnesses, they often go undiagnosed and untreated, which can have far-reaching consequences for both the women affected and their families. It is therefore crucial to raise awareness of this issue and develop targeted support services.
