For many men, the birth of a child represents a significant transition in life, bringing both joy and challenges. While mothers are increasingly the focus of research and care regarding mental health issues surrounding childbirth, the mental health of fathers is often overlooked. However, recent studies show that fathers can also suffer from mental illness after the birth of their child—especially depressive symptoms. This so-called paternal postpartum depression (PPPD), as well as other mental health issues such as anxiety disorders and adjustment disorders, must be taken seriously, as they can significantly affect not only those affected, but also their relationships and their child's development (Paulson et al., 2010).
