Motherhood is often portrayed as a purely joyful role. But the reality can look very different. Traumatic births, sleep deprivation, and the psychological burden of having to function in multiple roles push many women to their limits.
I didn't want anyone to notice how badly I was doing.
In her moving personal account, Rebekka honestly describes her journey through postnatal depression. Despite her professional background as a specialist psychiatric nurse, she experienced how anxiety paralysed her daily life. She describes the painful feeling of wanting distance from her own child after birth, and the exhausting effort of keeping up a «mask» during the day, while life crumbled like a house of cards in the evenings.
The Road Back to Joy
Rebekka's story is also a story of hope. With therapeutic support, a strong partner, and the courage to reactivate her support network, she has rediscovered her joy in life. Today she is proud of her journey and even looks forward with hope to the possibility of having another child.
Instead of putting obstacles in families' paths, we should all stand alongside them and give them a huge round of applause for everything they do every single day!
